This Was the First Tributech Smart Product Challenge
On the 7th of April 2022 our prestigious expert jury selected the winners of this year's Smart Product Challenge and crowned the 3 #SmartProductHeroes at the Microsoft Headquarter in Munich. All of the ideas and projects we received, reflect a forward-thinking vision and we have no doubt that together we can reinvent the status quo and make life smarter. Keep on reading to find out which startups won the Tributech Smart Product Challenge.
Due to the market launch of the Tributech OEM Module, we have started our first Smart Product Challenge for IoT solution – from startup for startups. By submitting a detailed application, IoT Startups had the chance to win valuable prices and secure themselves a free development kit.
In total we received 24 outstanding submissions. However, some of the applications fascinated us the most with their technical and business possibilities. So, after a first selection, 10 finalists had the chance to pitch their innovative IoT Solution to our prestigious panel of judges. Alike these submitted use cases it has shown that numerous different use cases could be implemented with the help of Tributech.

And the winners are…
Every startup had to present their innovative solution within 7 minutes, followed by a 3minutes Q&A session by the jury.
After an amazing afternoon filled with future-proof pitches from 10 outstanding IoT-Startups, the jury, consisting of Stefanie Grois (IoT Solution Architect EMEA at Microsoft), Michal Lagan (Head of IoT Sales at Magenta Telekom), Thomas Page (Regional Sales Director at Nordic Semiconductor), Dr. Josef Haid (Head of Security System Architectures at Infineon), Daniel Cronin (Pitch Professor at Austrian Startups) and Patrick Lamplmair (CTO & Co-Founder at Tributech), had to assess the pitchers via the following specific criteria: Level of innovation, Technological feasibility, Go-to-market approach, Commercial potential, Team expertise, Sustainability aspects and Quality of the pitch.
Although it was a close decision, 3 Startups convinced the jury with their expertise in all these aspects. These winners won prizes with a total value of more than €30.000,- including cash, workshops, pitch trainings and a fully equipped development kit, provided by Tributech, Infineon, Nordic Semiconductor and Magenta Telekom, to make their IoT solution ready for the go-to-market.

1. Sendance – Smart insole for diabetic foot
Sendance is a spin-off from the LIT Soft Materials Lab at Johannes Kepler University Linz. The team consists of highly skilled and motivated people with a long time experience in their working field. Sendance, the creator of permeable and conformable electronics, develops an insole for diabetes patients. The insole contains special sensors that monitor relevant health parameters. By consistently monitoring a patient's health parameters, Sendance aims to prevent ulcers from arising on the feet.
Their sensors can be seamlessly integrated in the surface of arbitrarily shaped plastic or wood objects, do not disturb the mechanical properties of the surface, can measure touch, pressure, humidity and temperature and make objects sensitive to their surroundings.
2. Carployee – Mobility tracker with reward system
Carployee is a smart ride-sharing app for daily commuting to companies and business parks. In our Smart Product Challenge, they submitted an new and very innovative project. Carployee plans to develop a mobility tracker for mobility users (e.g. cars, bikes, trains, ...) with the goal of building a comprehensive mobility data pool that provides raw data and analytics services to data consumers in the mobility supply chain and beyond. To bootstrap the mobility data pool and data ecosystem, they are planning to launch a tokenized incentive model that rewards end users for their collected and shared mobility data.
3. JUHUU BikeBox – Secure and smart box for storing bikes
The team of JUHUU BikeBox sees the switch from car to bike as a fundamental step towards achieving the climate goals in Austria and Europe. In order to make this mobility change an attractive alternative for as many people as possible, a well-developed bike infrastructure with many bike paths and secure parking facilities is essential. For this reason, they have developed intelligent, theft-proof and vandalism-proof BikeBoxes. Their goal is to offer all cyclists the opportunity to use their bike as an everyday means of transportation and to park it without worrying.
JUHUU BikeBox offers a secure storing solution with the possibility to even charge E-Bikes. Via an app customers can book a slot and store their bike. After removing the bike again, the payment will take place automatically via the app while providing a convenient customer experience.
The idea behind the Tributech OEM Module
The Tributech OEM Module for smart and connected products provides a competitive foundation for any IoT application. It is designed to be at the heart of next-generation IoT devices and accelerate time-to-market for IoT products.
We created the Tributech OEM module to enable scalable and application-specific IoT devices with LTE-M or NB-IoT connectivity. We also call this solution the backbone for smart and connected products that allows enterprises and startups like the applicants of our Smart Product Challenge to focus on the development of their IoT application and core business from day one. Furthermore, unique features such as digital-twin-based configuration and data management, high-end hardware security, blockchain based data verification & audits or built-in data-sharing provide them a competitive foundation for their IoT applications.
